Rules and Guidelines
Please be considerate of our parks - Hoover Ridge Park and Madison Recreation Center. Cleaning up after your dog and picking up litter are simple examples of how you can keep our parks suitable for all visitors. Please enjoy them and visit them often.
Park Hours
Hoover Ridge Park and Madison Recreation Center are open from dawn to dusk, year-round. Occasionally, there are scheduled Special Events and scheduled team practices and games that will occur after dusk. These activities are allowed and have been granted after-hours access.
Private groups and individuals are not permitted to be in the park before dawn and after dusk.

Athletic Fields
- A Field Use Permit issued by Madison County Parks and Recreation is required for organized activities, practices, games, events, etc.
- Athletic Field Use hours are sunrise to sunset
- Pets are prohibited on Athletic Fields
- Please keep off prepared or rained-out fields
- Sunflower seeds, peanuts, and smoking is prohibited on fields, dugouts, and bleachers
- Batting, throwing, kicking, or hitting balls into fencing or backstops is prohibited
- Moving base anchors, pitching rubber, or goals is prohibited
- Unauthorized motor vehicles are prohibited on fields
- No golf, model rockets, airplanes, or fireworks are permitted on fields
- Please properly dispose of trash in trash receptacles
- Abusive behavior and vulgar language is prohibited.
Dog Leash Policy
All dogs must be on a leash at Hoover Ridge Park (policy change removing off-leash area by PRA Board vote 04/10/24). They must be under your control at all times. We also ask that you clean up after your pet and have dog waste bags and trash cans on site for your convenience. Pets are also not permitted on any of the athletic fields.
Pavilions and Camping
There are four pavilions available for rental at Hoover Ridge Park. Unless reserved, all pavilions are open to the public. Reservations must be made before camping.

Pond at Hoover Ridge
The pond at Hoover Ridge is a great place for fishing or a picnic. Please adhere to the following rules for your safety.
- Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
- A valid Virginia Fishing License is required when fishing.
- Park only in designated parking lots. There is no parking permitted on the grass in and around the pond, or directly outside the fenced area. The parking lot at MPS can be used or the parking area designated for the Driving Range may be used.
- Pick up all trash after use.
- No fires, grills or camping permitted.
- The pond is not suitable for swimming.
- No walking or skating on ice is permitted.
- Do not take turtles or waterfowl from the pond.
Additional Park Rules
- Madison County Parks and Recreation Authority, the staff at MCPRA, and the County of Madison reserve the right to close the park to the public at any time for the safety and well-being of our community.
- The red barn, concession stand, and all storage sheds are closed to the public at all times. Only designated personnel should be in those areas.
- Firearms are not permitted
- Alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs are not permitted
- Park in designated spaces. Vehicles are not permitted on any of the playing surfaces.
- Equipment is only to be used as intended
- Report any hazardous conditions to Parks and Recreation staff
