UPDATED 1/12/2021

Dear Madison County Parks and Recreation Families:

As you know, Madison County has seen a surge in Coronavirus cases in the past two months, leading Madison County Public Schools to turn to virtual learning for the first time since school opened in September.
We have been running small group clinics and programs since September that have been going really well. These clinics have provided excellent training and social stimulation our children have needed this year. We plan to continue to do the clinics as long as it is safe to do so. We will be consulting with our Parks and Rec Board, Madison County Board of Supervisors, Madison County Health Department, and MCPS to monitor our activities and pause/delay if necessary. While we are taking all the precautions we can, we still do not want to be a source of exposure to those in our programs.

All participants in our programs need the following:
  • Cloth face covering readily accessible (paper masks tear easily and do not hold well when wet - not good for athletics) - consider purchasing a lanyard to wear around the neck. Eyeglass lanyards work great! Participants do not need to wear facemasks when exercising, but they are needed when social distancing cannot be achieved
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Reusable water bottle with name. Plastic water bottles increase risk of accidental sharing
  • Own equipment - this varies from sport to sport. Soccer clinics require participants to bring their own ball. Football clinics require gloves. Hockey clinics require pads, helmet, etc. that can be borrowed from MHL for the duration of the clinic.
In addition to personal care/equipment, the following COVID-19 protocols are also in place:
  • Participants must check in with the instructor at each meeting for a quick health screening.
  • Participants who have a sore throat, fever, body aches, cough or difficulty breathing in the past 48 hours CAN NOT PARTICIPATE.
  • Participants with fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea (all COVID-19 symptoms) in the past 14 days that is new and not part of a chronic condition CAN NOT PARTICIPATE.
  • Participants who have knowingly been in close or proximate contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or who has had symptoms of COVID-19 CAN NOT PARTICIPATE.
  • Participants who have tested positive or are currently awaiting test results in the past 14 days CAN NOT PARTICIPATE.
  • Participants who have been in close or proximate contact with someone who is currently waiting for COVID-19 test results CAN NOT PARTICIPATE.
We know that you may disagree with our protocols - your child may feel fine, or the exposure wasn't really for that long - whatever the reason - please, please just follow our protocols. If you don't want to miss two weeks of an activity you paid for, please just contact our office to discuss. We all need to do our part to keep our activities as safe as possible, and that only works if we are all following the rules.

Our Parks and Rec staff is currently working on developing return to play plans for spring team sports. Spring sport team play is not a guarantee, rather a goal! If we continue with the numbers and rates of infection we currently have, we will not be able to host team sports this spring.

Here's what you can do to help:
  • Remind your child of 6ft. social distancing, and practice yourselves
  • Wear face coverings in public
  • Avoid crowds
  • Wash your hands frequently, and use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not readily accessible
  • Limit your gatherings to 10 or less people, and minimize interactions with several different groups of people
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Follow CDC guidelines regarding exposure and quarantine protocols

We understand your frustrations and the desire to get back to normal. Our jobs have been anything but normal over the past 10 months. We desperately want to get back to doing the things we do best, and that's bringing sports, activities, and events to our community.

In the meantime, Hoover Ridge is open dawn to dusk. Walking trails and picnic shelters are available. There are even activities in the woods to keep children and adults entertained.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We look forward to seeing all of our families at Hoover Ridge!

Inclement Weather Policy:

All decisions during the week will be made and posted by 4:00PM by our PRA staff. After 4:00PM, the decision will be made by the coach, keeping in mind the safety of our players and maintaining good field conditions.

Saturday decisions will be made by 7:00AM and posted on our website and Facebook page by 8:00AM. Commissioners will be e-mailed and are responsible for contacting coaches, who are responsible for contacting participants. If you do not hear anything on your particular sport or field, all games/practices are on as scheduled. Be sure to check website and Facebook for most up-to-date information.

All decisions AFTER 8:00AM Saturday, including Sunday games/practices, are up to the Commissioners of the sport. Soccer plays in the rain, but Baseball/Softball volunteers can get fields cleaned up and dried very quickly!
